Australian Plants, Wildflowers and Garden Flora
Australia has some of the most diverse climate conditions in the world. With that variance in climate comes a great diversity in plant life and wildflowers.
June through to November is the time that Australia sees the wildflowers come to life. In early September in particular Western Australia boasts spectacular views of landscapes covered in colour.
As Australia is a very large continent there are some species of plants and flowers that will grow in sometime only small areas due to the precise environment. Even Banksias, tough as they can be, vary from region to region based on soil, nearness to the coast and rainfall.
Banksias
There are 173 Banksias that can be found throughout Australia, from the tropics to the dry arid regions, depending on each species however the greatest variety of Australian Banskias are found in southwestern Western Australia.
Grevilleas
The nearly 400 varieties of Gravillea on Australia are native to the country and attract a diversity of nector loving bird life making them popular in gardens.
Orchids
There are between 800 to 900 different types of orchids in Australia and the types are as diverse as the continent itself.
